Vertical FM Drag Finishers

FMDF 500 Vertical Drag Finisher

This small two-head model is economical, and its compact form factor makes it especially suitable for a work cell environment. Competitively priced and includes a digital PLC control panel.

The standard model is pictured here. We also have model packages with tooling for the cutting tool edge-prep, honing, and polishing industries, as well as models specific to the pharmaceutical industry, used for the polishing of pill punches.

FMDF 1000 Series Vertical Drag Finishers

The Model 1000 offers the same economical cost and space features as the model 500, but has three process heads for the ultimate value in processing.

This machine is also well suited for the work cell environment and is by far the best value in drag finishers anywhere. As with the model 500, this machine is ideal for the pill punch polishing and cutting tool edge-prep, honing and polishing industries. We offer turn-key packages for industry specific processes.

FMDF 2000 Vertical Drag Finisher

Our Model 2000 comes standard with a digital PLC and color touchscreen. All of Bel Air’s Drag Finishers elevate the media chamber up to the parts, instead of lowering the entire head mechanism down into the chamber. This simple system eliminates the complex series of shafts, linear bearings, ball screws and motors used on other drag finishers. These systems have been shown to succumb to the dust generated by dry process media and require regular maintenance to keep running properly. Our simple media lift system greatly reduces maintenance requirements.

This machine has 4 process heads and a large media chamber for the ultimate in part processing. Shown with optional media trolley.

FMDF 3000 Vertical Drag Finisher

Our Model 3000 Drag Finisher revolutionized the standard vertical drag finisher technology by changing the way the parts are introduced to the process media.

This machine has 6 process heads and a large media chamber for the ultimate in part processing.

Horizontal FM Drag Finishers

Horizontal Drag Finisher

Based on the tried and true FM-SFR 220 Horizontal Drag Finisher used in the jewelry industry for over twenty years, this new, larger machine is very robust and will stand up to even the most rigorous use in the industrial sector.

The HDF 4000 is available in a batch unit configuration, or a semi-automated version that includes indexing load/unload, as pictured on the front cover. The adjustable tail stock mechanism allows for a part range of 2″ – 36″ in length, providing for a machine that is fully scalable to your requirements. Up to ten individual parts may be processed at one time. Even with the batch machine, load/unload is a one-hand operation as the part is released via a foot-pedal.

FMRD Reverse Drag & Spindle Finishers

Reverse Drag Finisher

In our Reverse Drag Finishers, abrasive or polishing media moves at speeds of up to 2000 surface feet per minute, allowing the processing of large and small parts on arm mounted chucks. Centrifugal force spins the finishing media into a form fitting grinding wheel while the arm rotates the parts slowly in a “reverse drag” operation assuring uniform deburring and finishing of all surfaces.

FMAH Automated Reverse Drag & Spindle Finishers

AutoHone™ Robotic Reverse Drag & Spindle Finisher

The Bel Air AutoHone™ is a robotic honing and polishing machine that employs Bel Air’s tried and true Reverse Drag Finisher Technology. In the reverse drag finishing process, the process media is moving at a high rate of speed. This high speed causes the media to “stream” across the work piece. When the stream hits the work piece, it produces a high-energy “wave”, much like a wave in the ocean. This process, when coupled with the infinite degree of part articulation provided by the six-axis robot allows for a complete, even and repeatable process that is not achievable by hand finishing, or other types of equipment.
